CAIRO – 18 April 2017: Egyptian Startup Company Mermaid is an online cleaning service that enables property owners to hire professional and trusted maids.
Mermaid was established in July 2017 by a young group of Egyptian entrepreneurs through American University in Cairo (AUC) Venture Lab, a program commercializing startups created by young Egyptians.
Finding a trusted maid in Egypt has always been a major issue for many household owners and foreigners living in Egypt, therefore, MerMaid aims to simplify the process of finding a maid.
The website works on demand based on the users’ location of the household. Moreover, MerMaid offers a subscribe option where users can pay for monthly appointments.
MerMaid works in collaboration with an Egyptian insurance company in order to establish a trusted connection with the uses as well as working towards protecting household from thefts, as reported by Al Monitor.
The cleaning service also works on preventing abuse and violation of the maids as the users and maids can rate each other and post concerns via the
after the appointment.
MerMaid only hires professional maids as each one undergoes a cleaning training program enlightening them on the types of different detergents and cleaning techniques of various types of floors.
The prices start from EPG 200, yet it varies depending on the size of the apartments and houses as well as the number of rooms.
MerMaid contains over 25 maids, the majority of which are refugees as it offers them a steady job with a fair income and prevents them from being mistreated.
The service is currently available around Cairo in the neighborhoods of Mohandseen, Zamalek, Maadi, and Downtown.
