CAIRO – 27 December 2017: Jayda Hany has released her new FW17 collection – Riv-it! – which was inspired by the structural design of Cairo, the designer’s hometown and one of the busiest cities in the region.
The collection consists of four shoe models: Bolt, High Bolt, Rover and Swift. The designs incorporate six different colors throughout the collection – black, white, cool grey, mocha grey, blue and maroon – with around three colors used on every shoe. Three of the four models have rivet detailing on them, which is the defining signature of this collection.

The starring item of the collection is the iconic High Bolt, a high top sneaker available in multiple color schemes, with the rivet detailing adding special character to the already unique designs. The designs were inspired by Hany’s “architectural background” that “always leads her to noticing the fine details and appreciating the infrastructure, even in the most chaotic of cities,” according to a press release.

Her use of rivets especially is in homage to the “rivets, which are permanent fasteners used in various complex structures, such as bridges. One of the main inspirations behind the use of rivets is the Imbaba Bridge, which is iconic for its metal formation that is adorned by the mechanical fasteners all over.” A quote from Hany’s official website states, “Riv-it! encourages the individualistic needs of a modern female urbanite who is confident enough to seek her goals and lead a busy life.”

Jayda Hany is an architectural engineer by education. However, her passion for creativity inspired her to graduate with a master’s degree in Footwear Design in London. She launched her brand in 2015 after successfully completing her program. She believes that footwear is a core part of any outfit, not just an accessory. Hany was one of two designers chosen to have her collection adapted by BMW, in their M4 vehicle, which was customized to resemble her designs. Her bespoke collection was also inspired by structural architecture and mechanical structures and was unique in that she used 3D printing technology to create the shoes.
