CAIRO – 23 December 2017: Take in the view from the summit of Jebel Abbas Pasha while the sun is sinking behind Sinai’s ragged mountains.

Jebel Abbas Pasha, located in the center of the high mountains in South Sinai, is a black volcanic mountain with a stunning view of the surrounding mountain ranges, lowlands and the town of St. Catherine.

On the top of the mountain are the ruins of an unfinished palace dating back to Egypt’s viceroy Abbas Hilmi Pasha. It is said that he suffered from tuberculosis and wanted a building similar to a Swiss sanatorium.

Jebel Abbas Pasha is a popular trekking route, as it is approachable on foot from the town of St. Catherine. Its massive black walls stand firm next to the red granite dome of Jebel Abu Mahashir, holding a hidden green basin.

The best time to visit Jebel Abbas Pasha is in the morning or before sunset, as the mountain’s peak rewards the visitor with a stunning view over the town of St. Catherine and Mt. Sinai.

A one day visit to Jebel Abbas Pasha is an unforgettable experience, where the explorer becomes one with nature.
