CAIRO – 30 March 2017: The Giza Zoo opened to the public for free on Thursday as part of celebrations for the National Day of Giza Governorate, Youm7 reported.

The head of the Central Department of Zoology at the zoo, Mohamed Ragaee, told Youm7 that the system of cleanliness in the Giza zoo has improved compared to the situation years ago. Ragaee also said the Giza Zoo has witnessed the birth of several animals, including deer, scimitar oryx, Addax and Asian camels, within its breeding program.

He added that conditions in the zoo are “extremely clean” and it gets rid of 20 tons of waste per day in addition to pruning trees and asking visitors for their opinions and suggestions. He said the zoo’s development plan is based on giving necessary health care to the zoo’s animals as well as developing nutrition programs according to their needs in their natural habitats.

The Giza Zoo’s report revealed that it has developed a detailed plan to cope with crowds by increasing the number of workers at the gates and making new signs about each animal.
