CAIRO – 9 December 2017: A total lunar eclipse will be witnessed by Northern and Eastern Europe, Asia, Australia, North America, as well as North and East Africa on Jan. 31, astrologist Mohamed Gharib told Egypt Today.

Gharib, who works for the National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIAG), stated on Saturday that the eclipse will not be visible in Egypt or the Arab World. On the other hand, the Egyptian city of Luxor will witness a total solar eclipse in 2027.

According to NASA, that phenomenon occurs when “the Earth, moon and sun are in perfect alignment, blanketing the moon in the Earth's shadow.”

A solar eclipse happens when the moon blocks the light of the sun from reaching Earth.
