CAIRO – 25 February 2017: Cairo and Alexandria have been ranked among the top 10 cities in Africa in terms of quality of life from among the 100 most populous cities on the continent,
by the
(EPFL) and A
(AMB).
The Egyptian capital Cairo ranked 7th and Alexandria 3rd in the EPFL-AMB survey, based on seven categories: society, environment and ecology, housing, spatial development, infrastructure, governance and economy.
Marrakesh, a touristic Moroccan city and the host of the latest climate conference in November 2016, ranked first with a score of 75.13 (out of 100).
“Its first place ranking is clearly explained by the development program launched by Moroccan King Mohammed VI with the objective to turn Marrakesh into a ‘city of permanent renovation,’”

The economic capital of South Africa, Johannesburg, ranked second (74.92), Alexandria third (74.33), followed by Port Louis, the capital city of Mauritius (72.64) and Casablanca in Morocco (72.49).
The rankings are set to be published yearly, to measure the efforts and progress of each city.
