CAIRO – 20 November 2017: The General United Nations Assembly recommended in the December of 1954 that worldwide regions mark it as “a day of worldwide fraternity and understanding between children.” November 20 became an official United Nations day that commemorates the day when the Declaration of the Rights of the Child and the Convention on the Rights of the Child were utilized by the UN in the late 90’s.
The Convention on the Rights of the Child is an internationally endorsed human rights treaty, which has the objectives of providing freedom and human rights to children without discrimination or violence and the right to an education, life and play.
Article 31 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child declares that children have the mere human right to leisure, play, and participation in cultural and artistic activities. According to IPA World Organization.
Article 31 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child reads: “That every child has the right to rest and leisure, to engage in play and recreational activities appropriate to the age of the child and to participate freely in cultural life and the arts. That member governments shall respect and promote the right of the child to participate fully in cultural and artistic life and shall encourage the provision of appropriate and equal opportunities for cultural, artistic, recreational and leisure activity.”
“This is a day for children, by children, all over the world to help save children’s lives, fight for their rights and help them fulfil their potential,” the UNICEF stated on their website.
The UN has stated on their website that a celebration for World Children’s Day at their headquarters will be held, where child actress Dafne Keen from “Logan” and Isabela Moner from “Transformers: The Last Knight” and Nickelodeon, will join 150 children at the United Nations Headquarters with singers, songwriters and musicians.
