CAIRO – 9 November 2017: Harry Potter is about to get the Pokémon treatment from Niantic Labs the creators of Pokémon Go.

The Niantic Labs developers will be using the experience that they gained from Pokémon Go to create the app for Harry Potter. The Harry Potter fantasy books and movies already have an enormous cult following and it will be getting the augmented reality (AR) treatment. AR is the most recent trend to take over the gaming world it entails having the fantasy Potter world on your phone's screen.

The game’s title will be Harry Potter: Wizards Unite and a release date has been set for 2018. Warner Bros. will giving a helping hand in the development process.

The news of the game was first heard last year after rumors were spread. Yet here we are in 2017 and the official game has been announced.

Niantic will be putting in a huge input into the game Ingress, which allows players to roam the real world collecting power-ups, defending locations and exploring their environment. According to TechCrunch the mechanics of Ingress would actually translate pretty well to the fictional Harry Potter universe, and seems almost ready-made for a fantasy spell casting coat of paint to replace its science-fiction Special Forces veneer. Also, like Pokémon Go, it could benefit from the location database built up by Ingress originally (and expanded by the Pokémon title) to incorporate real-world locations into the in-game experience.

Earlier this month Finnish based games studio Next Games announced that they will launch a ‘Walking Dead’ game with the same concept where players will get to fight off Zombies to save their lives just like their favorite characters in the show.
