CAIRO – 31 October 2017: Wednesday Addams is a member of probably the most famous fictional Gothic family in history.

Created by cartoonist Charles Addams for The New Yorker in 1938, the family consists mainly of seven members and a hand; the Addams family went on to become a huge fictional phenomenon, turning into a sitcom in the 60s; then returning as a cartoon series in the 70s before turning eventually into a blockbuster movie in 1991.

Wednesday’s character, generally and especially in this scene, mocks the idea of pretentiousness and defies the notion that she would ever need saving. She is making fun of her complete opposite Amanda for choosing to be the victim, which Wednesday sees as a life-long choice of the “fake” Amanda, who would rather wait for a hero to come and save her.

● Anthony Hopkins was offered the role of Uncle Fester Addams, according to mental floss, but he turned it down to play Hannibal Lecter in the movie "Silence of the Lambs;" a role which earned him an Oscar.
