Melt in the Mouth
New Cairo’s Coppermelt chocolatier and patisserie joins this year’s chocolate fest
By Farah el-Akkad
Located off Road 90 in New Cairo, Coppermelt is set to be one of the strongest contenders for your Valentine’s chocolate box or dessert purchase. The lavish patisserie opened its doors last fall and, “the shop can hardly keep up with orders,” says Coppermelt co-founder Ayman Niazy.
Warm, delicious aromas of softly bubbling milk-chocolate custard, carmelizing sugar and cinnamon waft around you as you walk into the swanky building, leading you straight to the mouthwatering displays. “Our displays very much shape who we are,” says Niazy. “We are very passionate food lovers and our goal as partners is to bring out the best quality of tasteful desserts there is.”
Rich chocolates are available with a variety of scrumptious fillings including meringue, marshmallow, mixed nuts and caramel, Ferrero Roche, blueberry and thyme. Moving along to their desserts, Coppermelt’s signature creations include mud cakes, roasted sweet potatoes topped with nuts and flavored with chestnut cinnamon, as well as macaroons and red velvet cookies. The patisserie features a bistro on the second floor and has already gained a loyal clientele who stop in for sandwiches, hot meals and juices — the latter a blend of hibiscus and ginger, rosewater and mint served in traditional olla pottery cups.
In addition to French pastries and Oriental sweets, Coppermelt also offers fresh dairy desserts including mahalabiya, rice pudding and Om Ali.
