Born on August 27, 1961, he enrolled at Bard College at Simon’s Rock and then moved to New York to study art history at New York University (NYU). He then dropped out of NYU to focus on acting for television commercials. Later, he started studying architecture at Parsons the New School for Design and graduated with a degree in architecture in 1986.
After he graduated, he worked for Cathy Hardwick. In 1992, he became Gucci’s design director in menswear and other apparel sections. Also, he was responsible for the brand’s fragrances, image, advertising and store design.
In 2004, Ford left Gucci and launched his own brand Tom Ford. In 2005, he established his film production company, Fade to Black, and made his directorial debut with the film, ‘A Single Man’, in 2009.
