With 2024 almost ending, we cannot wait for the new year to come and grace us with 365 days of new opportunities. Yet sometimes, what we fail to do is enter the new year with a clean slate, we hold on to the previous year’s trials and tribulations with us and do not appreciate the experiences we’ve learned the year prior. We are so focused on the negativity and toxicity that we end up underestimating the peaks and accomplishments we have made.
When focusing only on the valleys, we lose sight of the immense character developments we’ve made, so to avoid that, here are some things that can help you look at this year with kinder eyes.
Don’t Regret Any Decision Made or Not Made
We understand that it can be frustrating not accomplishing all your goals and resolutions you’ve made and it can also be infuriating having to make necessary decisions that you may not have loved making; however, if you spend the entire time regretting every decision you’ve made or not, you won’t be able to give yourself some slack or have the energy to try something new.
Each of us has made lists of the things we would like to do but not all goals are made and that’s ok.
Always remember that just because it didn’t happen according to your plan right now, it doesn’t mean it won’t happen ever again later in life.
Celebrate Small Accomplishments
The need to “Go Big or Go Home” is surely a nice motto to follow, yet sometimes all you need to do is celebrate these tiny accomplishments you’ve made during the year.
Remember that you are alive and well and survived hardships and turbulence. That’s more than enough for you to look this year feeling good about yourself and the acts you’ve made along the way.
Remember that You’ve Learned Something
Reflect on personal growth, lessons learned, and any challenges you overcame, and know that no matter how small these lessons were, they have changed your perspectives. You are not the same person you were when you entered 2024. You now have more awareness of what you like and dislike and you know what it takes to make a change.
Remind Yourself That Years Later You’d See This Year as a Blessing in Disguise
We all have these reminiscing moments about how the past was so good and enjoyable and feel miserable about our current situation, so following that logic, you will feel the same way about this year too next year, you’d beg for these days when you were more relaxed and had more fun.
So no matter how tough this year was, you’d look back at it later on and feel good about that time and wish you could turn back time.
