Winter can be beautiful, but let’s be honest our hands and nails tend to suffer the most when the temperatures drop. Whether it's cracked skin, brittle nails, or constant dryness, you can't help but constantly apply hand cream at every given chance. Don't worry though, because with a few simple changes, you can keep your hands and nails soft and smooth matter how cold it gets. Here are five easy and effective tips to get you started.

1. Keep Them Hydrated
Your hands go through a lot during winter so make sure you invest in a good hand cream. Purchase hand creams that contain shea butter, almond oil, or cocoa butter to give you that much needed hydration boost.

2. Start Wearing Gloves
Who says gloves are just for warmth? They’re also your hands’ ultimate shield against the cold and dryness. Go for cozy gloves when you’re outside to keep your hands warm and don’t forget rubber gloves when doing dishes, because it will protect your hands from the harsh chemicals.

3. Don't Forget About Your Nails
If you never used cuticle oil, then winter is the perfect time. To keep your nails hydrated and strong, massage cuticle oil into your nails daily before going to bed. You can even DIY with a bit of olive oil if you're in the mood to pamper yourself.

4. Skip the Hot Water
A hot shower feels like heaven on cold mornings. However, hot water strips the natural oils from your skin, leaving it dry and irritated by time. Stick to lukewarm water whenever you can, and follow up with heavy moisturizers immediately after to lock in moisture.

5. Treat Yourself to a Weekly Hand Spa
Think of it as self-care. Once a week, exfoliate your hands to remove dead skin, then slather on a thick cream or hand mask. Slip on some cotton gloves overnight for an at-home spa treatment.
