UN-Habitat is pleased to announce the start of Cairo Urban Week, with the opening of the Urban Spaces of Cairo: Past, Present, and Future exhibition, hosted at the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) in collaboration with Legacy Development and Management, Operator of the Grand Egyptian Museum. Launching on November 1, 2024, and running until November 16, 2024, this exhibition serves as the opening event for Cairo Urban Week and pays tribute to the upcoming 12th World Urban Forum, which will take place in Cairo in November. Open to all visitors, this exhibition highlights the evolution of Cairo’s public spaces and inspires a vision for sustainable urban development in one of the world’s most historic cities.
Curated and designed by Ramzi Makram-Ebeid, of Human Nature Design, and Nisreen Moustafa of Dar Arafa Architecture, and based on “The Streets of Cairo” by Fady El Sadek, the exhibition explores Cairo’s urban transformation through Trade, Transport, and Community. With an array of projections, maps, videos, and photographs, visitors will embark on a visual journey through Cairo’s rich history, tracing its evolving landscapes from ancient times to the present and gaining insight into the city’s resilience and cultural depth.
