China Red: An Authentic Taste of China in Cairo

Chinese cuisine is more than a culinary tradition, it is a reflection of a rich and diverse culture emphasized by a harmony of flavors. And so, where better would you experience this cuisine at its most authentic than China Red, Le Meridien Cairo Airport? Introducing a new menu, we went to try the variety of new dishes, curious to delve deep into a symphony of tastes we knew would leave us craving for more. Upon arriving, we noticed the interior design accentuated by a prominent red color, which in Chinese culture stands for vitality, long life, and happiness. The setup, ambiance, hospitality, and even little décor details, as well as background music, create the feeling of a little China at the heart of Cairo.

As we got seated, getting ready to explore this culinary experience, we were served the delicious Westlake Soup made with minced beef, tofu, boiled egg whites, and fresh coriander. It was light enough with no overpowering flavor, and nice enough to start a dinner without filling up your appetite. For the appetizers, we tried deep Fried eggplant rolls, golden and crispy on the outside and so smooth on the inside, bringing a sumptuous mix of eggplants and minced meat. We also had a beef salad, a flavorsome dish of ginger-marinated beef tenderloin slices drizzled with spicy soy sauce on a bed of mixed leaves fresh ginger, and coriander.

The main course time was a feast on its own, indulging our senses and satisfying every palate as we moved between seafood, beef, and chicken dishes. For seafood, we were served scrumptious boiled seabass fish, tantalizing our taste buds with its rich flavor and mix of ingredients between Chinese cabbage asparagus, garlic, fresh coriander, and ginger, all cooked in hot pot sauce and light soy sauce, with dry chili added for the spicy twist. As for the salmon dish, we loved how fresh it was, cooked to perfection with bok choy and garlic in a delicious black bean sauce for a fusion of flavors. For those who are into really spicy dishes, these two are a must-try: stir-fried beef in oyster sauce with red and green chili, and the other dish is crunchy spicy chicken legs garnished with dry red chili. Each of the four dishes was a succulent experience on its own, taking us on a delicious adventure into this exquisite cuisine.
