How we feel in our bodies significantly relies on the type of food we eat. When it comes to digestion problems or a sensitive stomach, we should be very selective about what we eat and drink to avoid uncomfortable symptoms like bloating, nausea, and an upset stomach. So in order not to irritate your stomach, here is a list of some foods and beverages you need to avoid.

Dairy Products
If you are experiencing stomach discomfort, avoiding milk and dairy products for a few days will be of great help. The lactose found in milk and other dairy products isn’t easy to digest properly for many people, specifically those who are lactose intolerant; this results in bloating. However, you can eat yogurt and hard cheeses because they have no lactose, or go for lactose-free milk.

Caffeine
Caffeine found in chocolate, sodas, and energy drinks can increase stomach acidity, causing an upset stomach; caffeine stimulates gastrointestinal tract motility, making the food move more quickly through your digestive system causing diarrhea. Although many people can tolerate caffeine in moderate amounts, it's better not to risk it while you are already experiencing stomach discomfort.

Carbonated Drinks
Carbonated drinks can create excess air in the stomach, which can lead to excess bloating and gas. Moreover, many carbonated beverages are also acidic. They can change the acidity of your gastrointestinal tract, leading to poor digestion, heartburn, and reflux. They also contain artificial sweeteners like sorbitol, which is hard to digest and used in sweetening gum and diet foods. It affects the large intestine, it creates gasses, bloating, and diarrhea.

Fatty Foods
Fatty foods are difficult to digest; they can be hard on your stomach and also influence the feeling of fullness and the time it takes food to move through your intestine. They stimulate contractions in the digestive tract, which can either slow down the emptying of the stomach, worsen constipation, cause bloating, or in other cases cause diarrhea. If you’re experiencing troubles with digestion, try eating low-fat foods and 5 small meals throughout the day, this will decrease the pressure on your stomach. Avoid high-fat foods like butter, ice cream, red meat, and cheese.

Spices
If you're experiencing nausea or any irritation concerning your digestive system, you should avoid food choices that stimulate your system such as spices; it's preferable to stick with bland foods. Bland foods should not be very spicy or highly seasoned, as they may worsen the symptoms. Although spicy foods don’t cause stomach ulcers as many people think, such foods can irritate existing ulcers.

Processed Foods
These foods are high in additives, lactose, sugar, preservatives, fats, and artificial coloring which can worsen existing symptoms. People with allergies or sensitivities to these additives will feel their effects when experiencing periods of digestive discomfort. They also lack fiber, which helps regulate the movement of the intestines. In addition, ultra-processed foods are linked to a greater risk of developing IBS, cancer, obesity, and high blood pressure.
