Summer lovers are excited for the arrival of their favorite season to enjoy the sunshine, but when it’s too hot it can be dangerous. We all know that global warming and the climate change that we are witnessing are causing a significant rise in temperature. Accordingly, it is crucial to stay safe when heat waves hit hard. A heatwave can affect anyone, but people above 75, pregnant women, and those with long-term health issues such as diabetes or lung conditions are the most at risk. But don’t worry, following these tips can help you stay safe and cool when the heat is at its worst.
 
Stay Hydrated
 
You should drink water at regular intervals and not only when you are thirsty. Hydration is important at any time of the year, especially during hot weather as the main risk caused by a heatwave is dehydration.  Carry a water bottle wherever you go and take refreshing juices like lemonade and cold or iced drinks.
 
Keep Cool
 
Taking cool or cold showers can help keep the heat at bay. It is also important to stay indoors during the hottest time of the day, which is between 11 am and 3 pm. Keep your room cool by keeping the sun out, using electric fans and air-conditioning can help, and only open your windows when it’s cool enough outside. Avoid caffeinated and hot drinks. When outside, go a little bit classic; wear a hat and use an umbrella. Stay in the shade or air-conditioned places. Take a water bottle with you to drink frequently. As for protecting your skin, make sure to wear sunscreen and reapply it every 2-3 hours. It is also important to wear sunglasses safeguard your eyes from ultraviolet (UV) light.
 
Wear Light 
 
Dress in light and breathable clothes. Overdressing in the heat can make you feel hot faster so avoid layering and harsh materials. Try to wear soft materials; the best option is cotton clothes. Wear loose, light-colored clothes like white ones, and. If possible, go for oversized wear instead of skinny ones 
 
Eat Nourishing Food
 
Eat as light food as possible, water-rich and healthy food is the most optimum during the hot days. For example, eating vegetables and fruits such as cucumbers and watermelon will help your body stay hydrated and fresh due to their rich water content. Pay attention not to eat overly seasoned and salty food because they will make you feel thirsty.
