The General Authority of Culture Palaces pavilion at the Cairo International Book Fair in its 55th edition has witnessed huge demand for the works and studies that were issued by the Dean of Arabic Literature Taha Hussein. His works were issued by the Palaces of Culture, celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of the Deans' passing.
This year, the General Authority released multiple books that Taha Hussein translated, thus gaining significant attention from the exhibition audience, one of these books is “Kalila wa Dimna '' by Abdullah ibn al-Muqaffa. The book is considered a true world heritage expressing the cultural richness of multiple countries like India, Persia and arabs. It consists of 15 chapters, where animals are the protagonists, and each character has a certain personality and behavior, the book offers wisdom through the tongues of animals.
In Taha Hussein's edition, he adds: “The book represents the wisdom of India, Persia's effort, and Arabs' language, and it also represents the Islamic civilization's strength and ancient beauty, aiming to restore its original strength and beauty.”
He also stated that Ibn al-Muqaffa's translation of 'Kalila wa Dimna' into Arabic has been a source of inspiration and knowledge for generations. Muslims have not only studied and improved upon it, but have also contributed to its advancements.”
Also, the Cultural Palaces Authority, under the presidency of Amr Al-Basyouni, is releasing five books about the life and journey of the late Dr Taha Hussein. In addition to completing the publication of his works, which began last year with the release of 20 titles, this year they have added 36 titles of writings and works honoring him.
Taha Hussein will always have an everlasting impact on Arabic literature that will never fade, he also never failed to tackle important social and cultural issues and to try to find ways to challenge traditional norms. Not only did he have a great influence on the world of literature, but he even aimed to improve the quality of education in Egypt. He is an inspiration, an astonishing example of perseverance for not just people who have disabilities, but for us all.
