Fashion is an ever-changing aspect of life. Style advances and people’s taste adjusts. Through the past twenty years, trends have faded and new ones have come in to replace them. Excessive necklaces were replaced with simple gold chains and bracelets. Dresses over pants, that were quite common in the early 2000s, were left behind, and layering became simpler. Sneakers pushed heels and ballet flats to the side. Now, two decades later, many styles that were all the rage making an appearance once more.
Low-Rise Jeans
Low-rise jeans that were sold in every store, and worn by all celebrities were slowly phased out and replaced by high-rise denim pants. They were thought of as impractical and uncomfortable. However, it seems to be that the general public changed their minds. Low-rise jeans are now more accessible in stores and seen more and more on social media and in public. They have become a staple in people’s closets.
Denim Skirts
Speaking of denim, denim skirts are being revived by the public. Made popular by celebrities like Paris Hilton and Mandy Moore, denim skirts were seen on many Hollywood red carpets. Eventually, they were no longer accepted and were substituted by slowly cotton skirts. Recently, however, denim skirts, both mini- and maxi-, have been more commonly worn. Often paired with a pair of boots, the bottoms are becoming much more popular.
Small Handbags
Another old trend making an appearance once more is small handbags. While these didn’t really go out of fashion as much as they were replaced by bigger tote bags for practicality purposes, they have since been resurfacing. As thrifting is becoming increasingly common, fashion gurus and influencers are on the hunt for vintage Coach or Prada handbags to pair with their outfits. Small handbags are being seen as a key feature of one's ensemble.
Leg Warmers
Leg warmers, worn with mini-skirts and ballet flats or Ugg boots, were quite common in the 2000s era, regularly seen on the streets in both wintertime and in warmer weather. While they were no longer in use in the 2010s, they have newly been revived. Leg warmers are great for the colder weather, and are typically worn with tights and a short skirt and sweater.
Fashion is not a one-size-fits-all, and is meant to change and evolve. Even if trends you love are no longer in style, don’t let that stop you from wearing what makes you comfortable and what you like.
