We’ve bid sweet summer joy goodbye, and along with it the skin damage caused by tanning and spending a lot of time outdoors. Now as fall is officially here, it is time we make up for the damage we brought on our skin. Every season needs a different skincare routine based on what the weather brings to our skin. Now as we embrace autumn, here is how to transition to the season with the right skincare routine.
Get Rid of the Dead Skin.
The skin damage we face in summer from sweating, sun exposure, and beach and pool time, can cause a buildup of dead skin cells. Exfoliate your body and face to get rid of all the skin cells that make your complexion look dull and give your complexion a fresh start. However, it is important to choose a gentle exfoliator, preferably of natural ingredients, to avoid irritation of the skin.
Load up on the moisturizer.
In general, our skin gets drier as we approach autumn and winter, and for other people, it may even get a bit flaky. This is why it is very important to moisturize day and night. If you have switched to a lighter moisturizer in summer, it is time to swap it back for a thicker one. If your skin is oily/combination that doesn’t mean you are ok with skipping moisturizer. Instead, opt for one that is suitable for your skin type.
You still need SPF.
Just because the sun is not as strong or the weather is getting cloudy doesn’t mean you can stop using SPF. Even when it is cloudy, harmful sun rays can still penetrate and affect your skin and this is why you need to use sunscreen all year round.
Amp up on body lotion.
Besides drinking a lot of water, you need to keep your body moisturized. Go for body lotions or butters rich in coconut oil, shea butter, and vitamin E to keep your skin soft and prevent itchiness and dryness.
Carry a lip balm around.
This is the time when your lips are likely to get very dry and chappy. Carry a lip balm around and apply it whenever needed. Lip masks are also of great help when used overnight. You will wake up finding your lips soft and in great condition.
