The world of skincare is constantly evolving but one thing remains constant, you should follow a morning and night routine. From more products that keep on emerging to the use of active ingredients, and how to layer it, you might feel a bit overwhelmed. You may have also watched videos of beauty bloggers religiously and followed every step, yet, you don’t seem to notice significant results, or maybe any results are all. Maybe there’s something you’re doing wrong, here are some hints.

1. You are not consistent. To notice results, you must be consistent. Following a skincare routine for a couple of days and then skipping days or weeks and then getting back won’t give you results. A rule of thumb is to simplify your skincare routine and don’t stuff it with so many products. Commit to your skincare routine and don’t judge until you’ve given it at least a month of consistency.

2. You are not using the right products for your skin type. You need to understand your skin type and what it needs to pick the right products that can tackle your skin problems. If you are not sure about your skin type or the products it needs, consult a specialist or a dermatologist.

3. Change in lifestyle. Your diet, quality of sleep, how much stress you have to deal with, and other factors in the way you live have a huge impact on your skin. A sudden change in your lifestyle or an unhealthy one can disrupt your hormones and cause a lot of skincare problems like acne. Eat healthy as much as possible, make sure you get enough sleep, and always stay hydrated.

4. You are not layering the products correctly. It is important to apply your skincare products in the right order to ensure it gets penetrated to your skin. Start with the lightest to the heaviest formulas. Also, give enough time between each product to get fully absorbed.

5. Your products have expired. Always pay attention to the PAO ‘Product after Opening’ symbol on the packaging of the product which indicates how long you can use the product after it has been opened and use this product only within the given timeframe. Also pay attention to any changes in the product in terms of color, smell, or liquid separation, and keep your products in a dry, cool place away from direct exposure to the sunlight.
