CAIRO - 11 February 2023: Kafr El-Sheikh governorate is characterized by many distinct tourist areas, as the governorate overlooks water surfaces that distinguish it from the rest of the governorates.
It overlooks the Mediterranean Sea with a length of 120 km, and includes Lake Burullus, which extends between the centers of Baltim, Burullus, Sidi Salem, and Motobas. It also overlooks the Nile River with 3 centers of Desouq, Fouh, and Motobas.
Lake Burullus, in the governorate, includes 28 islands, the best and most famous of which is Shakhlouba.
Al-Shakhlouba Island
Al-Shakhlouba Island is a charming and beautiful spot on the map of Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate.
It is located in Lake Burullus in the direction of Sidi Salem Center. It is an old fish ring in the middle of the lake.
Because of its beauty and charm, the fish ring moved from it to the shore of the lake in the village of Al-Shakhlouba, so that the island would be an important tourist attraction. The island is known as the bride of Burullus and Egypt's Venice.
The village of Shakhlouba is located between two banks, and it was called Shakhlouba, because it was a large swamp, before housing was built in its surroundings, where Shakhlot fish gathered in it, so it was called by this name.

Visiting Burullus is considered a one-day trip thanks to the beauty of the nature of the place, and it also enjoys calmness as it is free from noise and crowds, but It lacks some services.
The village of Al-Shakhlouba is one of the villages belonging to the Sidi Salem Center in Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate, and it is the only village located on the southern coast of Lake Burullus. Its location and nature constitute a tourist attraction, as it enjoys quiet beaches on the lake, and a fertile environment.
Visitors of the island like to take pictureso f the calm waters and the colorful wooden boats resting on the shore, seeing fishermen board them at dawn every day.
Inhabited by 20 thousand people, most of whom work in the village are in the fishing profession and fish farms, and it has a commercial activity to sell fish through auctions in the fish ring, in addition to workshops for making boats, and there are no agricultural lands in the village, no farmers, and there is no unemployed among them.
Two islands in Shakhlouba
Al-Shakhlouba has two islands, Jamal Helmy Island and Abdel Shafi Mahia Island, located in the middle of Lake Burullus. They contain trees and two buildings. They were fish shops, and fishermen used to go to them after a fishing trip in the lake to sell fish.
Then the two fish rings were transferred from the two islands to the village, and the two islands turned into shrines. Tourist, the people of the village and neighboring villages, the people of the governorate, like to go there to spend enjoyable times among the trees and the fish ring building, in the midst of water and clean air, away from pollution.
