What is freedom, and how do we exercise it? What sets us free and what is it that hold us back? Freedom. It is one of the most sought-after life goals. We all want to feel free, to be free, but none has ever reached this state had they been unaware of what they need to rid themselves of. What is it that we need to let go of to be free? What are the chains and shackles that hold us back, that imprison our soul? The journey to freedom is not really an easy one and needs a change in perspective and a lot of work, and here is how to start embarking on that journey.
Set yourself free from your inner critic and negative self-talk. We make mistakes, we still will, and that’s how we learn. Stop being harsh on yourself, change what you can, and accept what you can’t change.
Set yourself free from the past. Don’t dwell on it, good or bad. Don’t compare the younger you to the person you are today. Stop reminiscing the old glorious days and don’t live grieving over sad incidents from the past. Move on, live and focus on the now.
Set yourself free from expectations. Free yourself from unrealistic expectations from others and what others expect from you. So much of our lives is lost in wallowing in despair of expectations that were not met.
Set yourself free from comparison. Don’t compare your journey to that of others, don’t compare where you are today to others. You are where you need to be today. No one is ahead, no one is behind; it is not a race.
Set yourself free from fear and constant worry. Rid yourself of all the bad scenarios your mind makes up. Set yourself free from all the ‘what ifs’ and all the negative thoughts of how things can go wrong. It is not as bad as the mind tricks you to believe.
Set yourself free from your limiting beliefs. Push beyond everything that stands in the way of living your best life. Don’t believe every bad thing you’re told about yourself, not even the things you say about yourself.
Set yourself free from perfection. We were not made to be perfect, we were made to be the best version of ourselves. Don’t seek perfection, make peace with imperfections.
My final words to you…
• Love yourself, and take good care of ‘you’.
• Be original.
• Be good to people, but don’t lose yourself becoming a people pleaser.
• Forgive yourself and others.
• Embrace the change that this journey brings along.
