With solid force and power, celebrities and public figures stand in solidarity to support Manal, the Official Spokesperson at Ahl Masr Foundation and Ahl Masr Hospital and a heroic burn survivor.
Who is Manal and what is her story?
At the age of only 16, Manal has become a victim of a fire accident in which she lost her mum and two other family members, leaving her with not only severe physical injuries but also lots of emotional and psychological pain. Manal has undergone 37 surgeries among which 27 were done in the first three months after her accident, and these surgeries were only the beginning of a long and tough medical procedure.
Manal has spent so many years torn, suffering, and broken; hiding behind closed doors from a society that blamed her and shamed her for a fate that she didn’t choose. One tragic incident turned her life upside down, depriving her of the bare minimum of her rights to live, go to school, and lead a normal life.
Time passed by, and one day she decided to get up on her feet again, to face the world with strength, faith, and resilience. She decided not to let this accident stop her from living and getting back to life.
Manal is a heroic burn survivor, someone we should all look up to with utmost respect, love, and admiration, but sadly we live in a harsh cruel world.
Unkind words can open up wounds that took years to heal.
After starring in Ahl Masr’s campaign, Manal was bullied on social media for her scars; an inhumane act from hearts that know no mercy.
These inconsiderate comments affecting not only Manal, but all other burn survivors, had to stop and this is why we all stop up against bullying.
Celebrities and public figures including Khaled Abou Bakr, Moataz El Demerdash, Sherif Madkour, Lekaa Elkhamissi, Ahmed El Tohamy, Tamer Bashir, and many more changed their profile pictures to a picture of Manal with the headline ‘No to Bullying’ and hashtag #SetElSettat
Moreover, Heba El Sewedy, Founder and Chairwoman of Ahl Masr Foundation, also stated on Facebook that she will file a complaint to the Public Prosecution for the inconsiderate and harsh bullying against Manal.
Ahl Masr Hospital is the first and biggest hospital to treat burns in Egypt, Africa, and the Middle East. Burn survivors, just like everyone, deserve the right to live an everyday life without bullying.
