CAIRO – 18 March 2021: The International Poetry Festival will be launched virtually, due to the coronavirus pandemic, from the Russian capital, Moscow, on Sunday, in conjunction with the celebration of the International Poetry Day, which falls on March 21.
This year’s edition of the festival will witness the participation of 350 poets from 93 countries.
The festival is held annually under the auspices of UNESCO, which launched the International Poetry Day in 2000, and a group of Russian poets launched an international poetry festival on March 21 under the title Poésia 21.
A special session for North African poets will be led by the Moroccan poet Mohamed Miloud Gharafi, with the participation of 30 poets from Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Libya and Algeria.
Readings will start at 9 a.m. Moscow time, with poets from China, Japan, the Philippines and Australia and will end with poets from Latin America.
The readings will run for 20 hours with the participation of poets from all around the world.
