CAIRO – 14 March 2021: On March 14, Egypt celebrates the anniversary of opening the Coptic Museum in Cairo.

The Coptic Museum is one of the oldest and most important museums in Egypt, as it contains the largest and most important collection of Coptic artifacts in the world (about 16,000 pieces).

In 1908, after receiving approval from Pope Cyril V, Marcus Simaika Pasha started building the Coptic Museum and it was inaugurated on  March 14, 1910.

The museum is located in Old Cairo ( Religious Complex), within the walls of the Roman fortress of Babylon, surrounded by some of the oldest and most important churches in Egypt, like the Church of Virgin Mary, the Hanging Church and the Church of Abu Serga, in addition to the oldest Jewish synagogue(Ben Ezra), which dates back to the 9th century AD, and is just a few minutes’ walk from  Amr Ibn Al-Aas Mosque.
