1893- Rudolf Diesel receives a patent for diesel engines.
1903 - The United States leases Guantanamo Bay from Cuba forever.
1904 - The United States obtains rights to control the Panama Straits for $10 million.
1919 - Benito Mussolini establishes the Fascist Party in Italy.
1953 - Arrissalah Magazine was withheld from publication after it had been the first literary magazine in the Arab world for twenty years. It was co-edited by leading writers in Egypt and the Arab world, and was edited by writer Ahmed Hassan el-Zayat.
1979 - Hala Shiha, actress.
1979 - Hanan Mutawa, actress.
1997- Henry Barakat, director.
