1848 - Karl Marx and Frederick Engels publish the Communist Manifesto.
1922 - The United Kingdom ends the protection it imposed on Egypt in 1914.
1946 - The General Committee for Egyptian Workers and Students calls for a general strike against the British occupation authorities in response to the Abbas Bridge incident that took place on February 9.
1965 - Malcolm X or Haj Malik Shabazz, president of the African American Federation and official spokesperson for the Nation of Islam, is assassinated while in the conference hall in New York City.
1914 - Mustafa and Ali Amin.
1930 - Ramadan Abdel Tawab, Egyptian linguist.
1950 - Al-Muntaser Billah, Egyptian actor.
