CAIRO – 9 February 2021: On February 8, Qaha Culture House, affiliated to the Qalyubiya Culture Palace, held a lecture entitled "Mummification of the Ancient Egyptians" given by Mohammad Maher, the archaeological researcher in Qalyubiya Archeology Area.

During the lecture, Maher spoke about the methods of mummification in Pharaonic Egypt, explaining that embalming is the process of preserving the body of the deceased, which took place in light of the Pharaos’ belief in resurrection and immortality.

Maher emphasized that the mummification came three types: Full mummification, which is exclusive to kings; mummification for the middle class; and mummification for the poor.

According to Maher, the stages of mummification include washing and disinfecting, extracting the entrails and brain, placing embalming materials, drying liquid materials, applying oils and fats, shrouding and placing the body in linen rolls.
