Contest in London to reaffirm the city as a cultural hub

CAIRO –2 July 2017: Sadiq Khan, is a British politician who is currently the Mayor of London and he is working on supporting the city's reputation as a cultural powerhouse; Khan launched an initiative to get the creative juices flowing in the city's 32 boroughs

In the upcoming months, there will be a competition between all the boroughs of London to be named the city's borough of culture; the winner of the title will also be granted £1 million (about $1.3 million). This award will be given to the two most creative, most ambitious boroughs that will come up with the most comprehensive cultural programs and shed light on the local places and traditions.

Khan was inspired by the annual UK City of culture and European city of culture programs. Next February, two winners will be announced; one will take the title for 2019 and the other for 2020.
