CAIRO - 10 January 2021:Egypt’s Bani Hassan archeological site in Minya received a delegation from Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and the Netherlands Institute in Cairo.
The delegation visited the area, in preparation for developing tourism services as a part of the joint cooperation project between the Ministry and the Institute.
The delegation included Ms. Eman Zidan, Assistant Minister of Tourism and Antiquities for the Development of Museums and Archaeological Sites, Dr. Muhammad Mahmoud Abu Zaid, Deputy Governor of Minya, Ms. Dalia Daoud, Head of Culture and Development at the Dutch Embassy, Dr. Mai Al-Ibrashi from the Megawra office, and Mr. Gamal Abu Bakr, Director General of Egypt's Antiquities.
Mrs. Eman Zaidan explained that the development project includes placing explanatory and indicative panels about the site, its monuments, the visit path, the hygiene safety regulations and other useful information for visitors.
In addition to providing a cafeteria and self-cleaning toilets.
In addition, brochures on the site will be prepared and printed in different languages and other services that will improve the visitors' experience.
The assistant minister added that the development of the archaeological area of Bani Hassan is the second stage of the cooperation project between the ministry and the Dutch Institute.
The first phase included training a number of archaeologists on the best scientific methods used to manage and develop tourism services in museums and archaeological sites by experts in the field from the Netherlands.
Field visits were also organized to a number of archaeological sites to study the current situation of these sites and to develop proposals for their development.
The Bani Hassan Archaeological site was chosen to implement the practical part of the project.
A book on the basics of managing archaeological sites will be printed and published in both Arabic and English.
They also visited Minya Museum to find out the latest developments, and to discuss the possibility of using bazaars, cafeterias, passageways and locations along the Nile, to provide tourist services so that their experience would be fun and rich with information about the ancient Egyptian civilization.
This comes in line with integrating cultural with leisure.
Discussions are underway to explore ways of cooperating to promote archaeological sites, museums and tourist attractions in the governorate, by updating the map of tourist attractions and placing billboards to promote them.
It is worth noting that Bani Hasan archaeological area is one of the most important archaeological areas in Minya Governorate.
It includes 39 tombs from the Middle Kingdom, four of which are open for visits. They contain murals showing scenes of daily life, sports, acrobatic and rhythmic dances, as well as views of industries such as the textile and gold industry.
They also include Hunting, sports medicine and veterinary medicine.
As for the Minya Museum, it overlooks a wonderful view of the Nile and is an icon of the city.
It includes an internal walkway overlooking the Nile with an area of approximately 10,000 square meters.
It has 4 marinas on different levels, and artificial lakes with an area of 5,000 square meters. It has 70,000 M2 of green spaces .
The museum contains a service area consisting of a conference center, a cinema, theater, library, and a bazaars building that includes 19 bazaars on an area of 2000 square meters, a cafeteria in the middle of the museum with an area of 1500 square meters, and a garage of 3500 square meters.
