CAIRO – 6 January 2020: Head of the General Egyptian Book Organization Haitham el-Hagg Ali, revealed that the organization is currently preparing for the establishment of a website for the Cairo International Book Fair during the beginning of 2021.
This is to allow the public to browse through all the events, books and activities of the book fair.
Ali said in press statements that the organization created the website by committees and companies during the month of March 2020, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, as the idea came in anticipation of canceling the exhibition.
Moreover, Ali pointed out that the most important element that the organization focused on in the website is the element of "marketing" for the purchase of books, either by the sectors of the Ministry of Culture, or through Egyptian, Arab and foreign publishers. The website is like a virtual world of the Cairo International Book Fair.
It is worth noting that the Supreme Administrative Committee of the Cairo International Book Fair held its first meeting chaired Minister of Culture Inas Abdel Dayem and discussed developments in the world and the developments of the pandemic and its impact on the map of book fairs around the world.
This led to the cancellation or postponement of international exhibitions that were set to be held in the coming period.
The participation of international institutions and Arab and foreign publishers was also discussed, with what is expected to be the difficulty of moving between countries, especially in the winter season, and the international conditions to be established in the coming period, which may affect the outside participation in the exhibition.
The committee decided to postpone the date of the book fair for this year, to be held on June 30,2021, until July 15, 2021, with four days more than usual.
Due to the same circumstances, coordination has been made between the Egyptian and Greek sides to postpone the participation of Greece as the guest of honor of the exhibition for the next edition.
Each of the Supreme Administrative Committee and the Higher Consultative Committee will start holding their meetings periodically to prepare the executive plans for the book fair, taking into account the emerging developments.
