Helmy el-Namnam: I am not surprised by the actions of the “birds of darkness” anymore

CAIRO – 4 January 2020: Journalist Helmy el-Namnam, former Minister of Culture, said, “I was not surprised by the attack by some of the “birds of darkness” against the great writer Waheed Hamed, as they have a known “indecency”, and we are no longer surprised by their behavior.”

“Terror groups do not know anything about the sanctity of death, and they have sadism and helplessness, and therefore we should not pay attention to them", Namnam added, in an interview with journalist Amr Abdel-Hamid, on the “Rai Aam” [Public Opinion] program broadcast on TeN TV.

“Waheed Hamed had his own world. His eyes were focused on society, as he grants the individual his right and discusses his issues, and at the same time he has an outlook on what is happening in society.”

“Awareness cannot be talked about in absolute terms. We have an individual awareness of the citizen, and there is a community or national awareness, which is what Waheed Hamed worked on all the time,” concluded Namnam.

It is worth noting that the renowned Egyptian writer Waheed Hamed passed away on January 2, 2021, after a struggle with illness.
