CAIRO – 2 July 2017: Actor Maged El Kedwany will be awarded the Faten Hamama Award at the 39th Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF), receiving the award at the festival’s opening ceremony on November 21.
El Kedwany’s acting style focuses on embodying the characters he plays. He received the Muhr’s Award for Best Feature Actor at the Dubai Film Festival 2010 for his role in 678, a film directed by Mohammed Diab where he acted alongside Nelly Karim, Bassem Samara and Sawsan Badr.
He started his acting career in 1990 and starred in films including "Afareet el-Asphalt" (Asphalt Ghosts), "Saidi fel Gamea al-Amrikeya" (Saidi at the American University), "Al-Ragol al-Abyad al-Motawaset” (The Average White Guy) and "Khaly Min Cholesterol" (Cholestrol-Free).
CIFF is the Middle East and Africa’s oldest cultural event. Writer and critic Kamal El Mallakh launched the festival in 1976 to bridge the gap between Egyptian cinema and the international film industry. Faten Hamama whom the award commemorates became an iconic actress since her first moments on the silver screen at the age of seven.
Because of her great impact on Egyptian cinema, an award is gifted to an outstanding actor in her name every year.
