CAIRO – 31 December 2020: The Mansoura Culture Palace organized on December 30, a story-telling evening, which dealt with the life and biography of the writer Youssef Idris.
Idris is considered one of the most important story, novel and essay writers in the Arab world.
He received his medical degree from Fouad I University, which witnessed his political bias and struggle against the British occupation.
He was appointed to Al-Qasr Al-Aini hospital, but he resigned in 1960 after joining Al-Gomhuriya newspaper, then Al-Ahram, and decided to devote himself to writing.
His first story, "A Canticle of Strangers", was published in 1950, then his first collection, "The Cheapest Nights", was published in 1954, followed by many other works between stories, novels, plays and articles.
Idris was so proud of himself and his writings that he even exaggerated after Naguib Mahfouz won the Nobel Prize and said that he was more worthy of it than him.
Most of his novels were turned into movies. He has also written many award-winning plays.
