CAIRO,2July 2017- Cairokee and Tania Saleh’s musical collaboration opened the Shubbak Festival’s music programme in London to showcase Arab contemporary artists at the Barbican Center on 1 July.

Cairokee is an Egyptian rock band that voices the social and political concerns of the youth. Although it was founded in 2003, their popularity sparked after the release of their revolutionary hit single “Soot El Horreya” or the Voice of Freedom. They will be dropping their latest album “No’ta Beeda” or Whit Drop as part of their performance in the festival.

Tania Saleh, a Lebanese artist and songwriter, blends tarab, mawwal and dabke, traditional styles of singing and music, with modern musical techniques like alternative rock, and jazz to embody beautiful musical patterns for our ears.

Shubbak Festival was founded by the Mayor of London in 2011 and is now an independent charity run by Omar al-Qattan. It is the “largest biennial festival of contemporary Arab culture” in London by utilizing various forms of art including “visual arts, film, music, theatre, dance, literature and debate.” It allows people to explore the various artistic creations of the contemporary Arab art scene. This year’s festival starts on 1 July until 16 July.
