CAIRO – 9 December 2020: The Bibliotheca Alexandrina, represented by the Women Studies and Social Transformation Program of the Academic Research Sector, in cooperation with UN Women - Egypt Office, lights the entire Alexandria Library building in orange for the third year in a row.

This is part of the initiative, "Color the World Orange," as part of the United Nations Secretary-General's "Unite" campaign, where the distinctive landmarks around the world are illuminated in orange, which symbolizes a brighter future without violence.

This will take place on December 10, after sunset, to conclude the campaign on the International Human Rights Day.

The lighting of the library building comes from the intellectual mission of the Library of Alexandria and UN Women - Egypt office in various societal fields, and their keenness on improving women's conditions and raising public awareness in this regard, believing that the status of women in any society is the result of an interaction between cultural, social, economic and political factors that are intertwined in a complex way, and that the stability and progress of nations can only be achieved through the participation of women in the public sphere as an essential actor and partner in order to build a new future, believing that the empowerment of women is considered an addition to the balance of society as a whole and its ability to compete at the global and regional levels.
