CAIRO – 1 July 2017: Celebrity couple Beyoncé and Jay Z welcomed twins to their family; a boy and a girl whom they have named Sir and Rumi.
On Monday 26 June music artists Beyoncé and Jay Z filed legal documents to trademark the children’s names on the same day that the twins were sent home from hospital, according to celebrity news website TMZ. The documents were filed by the same company that filed the legal documents of the couple’s first child, daughter Blue Ivy.
Rumi’s name appears to be inspired by the 13th century Persian poet Jalal al-Din Muhammad Rumi, while Sir is a reference to a line in one of Rumi’s famous poems;
“Bring the pure wine of
love and freedom.
But sir, a tornado is coming.
More wine, we'll teach this storm
A thing or two about whirling.”
Beyoncé and Jay Z are excited to expand their family as reported in People magazine.
