CAIRO - 23 November 2020: Egyptian Film “ El Deif” ( The Guest) by director Hadi Elbagoury will be available on Netflix in December, 2020.
The film has previously reaped six awards from across international and Arab film festivals.
It was a huge success upon its release across the Arab world.
“ El Deif” was released in many Arab countries and worldwide including Lebanon, Jordan, Morocco, Tunisia, the Netherlands and Estonia.
It also world premiered at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival in Estonia, where it won an Audience Award, had a full-house screening and received huge audience acclaim, marking the sole Egyptian and African film in the official competition of the festival and the first ever Egyptian feature film to get officially selected for the festival.
The Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival is one of the A-rated film festivals along with 14 other festivals around the world.
The festival screens over 250 features, as well as 300 short and animated films annually throughout its different programs.
Recently, “El Deif” has received three awards opening the 46th Egyptian Cinema Film Association Festival.
These awards are; Audience Award, Best Set Design Award, and the Special Jury Award which was awarded to Maged El Kedwany.
The film has also won including the Audience Award at Malmo Arab Film Festival and Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, and the Best African-Asian Actress Award at the New Vision International Film Festival.
Produced by iProductions and supervised by the Manging Director Ahmed Fahmy, “ El Deif” has achieved stunning success since its release at Egyptian theatres in January, 2019.
It also received wide critical acclaim by many critics and took part in many international festivals and film events, including: the Arab Film Festival, Rotterdam and competed in the Official Competition of the Festival International du Cinéma Méditerranéen de Tétouan.
Additionally, it was screened at the Manarat Festival du Cinéma Méditerranéen in Tunisia.
The film revolves around a man who visits a family for dinner as a guest, and then strange incidents follow.
Yahia Tijani is the writer and thinker the film revolves around. Tijani has opinions that make him face the charge of contempt of religions. Perhaps the most prominent among his opinions is that hijab is not obligatory.
Tijani has a small family consisting of his wife Mimi and his daughter Farida, who Osama proposes to marry. Osama is "the guest" that changes the course of events in the film.
The film stars Khaled El Sawy, Ahmed Malek, Shereen Reda and Jamila Awad, alongside guest stars Maged El Kedwany, Mohamed Mamdouh, Arfa Abdel Raoul and Mahmoud Al Lithy.
The film is the second cinematic experience for the veteran writer after the great success he achieved in his previous controversial film “Mawlana” (The Sheikh).
“El-Deif” (The guest) is starring Khaled el-Sawi, Sherine Reda, Ahmed Malek and Jamila Awad and is directed by Hadi el-Bagouri.
“ El Deif” marks the second collaboration between writer Ibrahim Eissa and iProductions after Mawlana.
It is also the company's second time to work with Director Hadi Elbagoury after“ Hepta: The Last Lecture” that was the highest-grossing romantic film in the history of Egyptian cinema with revenues of more than 27 million L.E.
The film also brings together Eissa and Elbagoury for the first time ever.
