CAIRO - 16 November 2020: Cairo International Film Festival held its press conference on November 16.
The festival executive director Omar Kassem said that the 42nd edition of Cairo International Film Festival will be an exceptional one since it will be held in COVID-19 times.
” I would like to thank minister of Culture Inas Abdel Dayem and the Egyptian government for supporting the festival” Kassem said.
Head of Cairo International Film Festival Mohamed Hefzy said that this edition is a challenging one as almost most of the festivals were cancelled this year because of COVID-19.
Hefzy thanked ex artistic manager of the festival Ahmed Shawky for his previous efforts.
“I would like to thank the ministry of culture and all our sponsors for their continuous support to the festival” Hefzy added.
Hefzy explained that there is a story behind the poster of this edition, as it houses two statues of Isis and 42 pyramids, Isis was the symbol of strength so this reflects that this edition will be held despite all the obstacles.
“ We are honored in this edition to give the Golden Pyramid to Veteran screen writer Waheed Hamed and Faten Hamam Award to Egyptian superstar Mona Zaki” Hefzy said.
CIFF head announced that the festival will honor veteran writer Christopher Hampton.
Hefzy said that the 42nd edition houses 84 films.
“20 films will have their world premiere at Cairo Film Festival” Hefzy said.
CIFF this year will celebrate the passage of a century on Federico Fellini birth with organizing an exhibition to him.
This edition will witness the release of three new awards.
Watch iT will present a new Award worth 5000$ and Nut Award will be presented for the best movie discussing women issues, will be amounted to 10000$.
“The acclaimed Russian filmmaker Alexander Sokurov will be the head of the jury members
and let’s welcome veteran actress Lebleba who will serve as a jury member.
