CAIRO – 16 November 2020: The El-Manial Palace Museum is holding a temporary exhibition entitled "The Heritage of Our Country" of traditional arts and handicrafts, in celebration of Prince Mohammad Ali Tawfiq's 145th birth anniversary, who established the Manial Palace to commemorate and honor Islamic arts.

 

 

The exhibition will open to the public on November 17, at 1 p.m. in the private museum courtyard.

More than 25 traditional and handmade crafts will be participating, made by Egyptian artists and creators.

Wala Badawy, General Manager of the Manial Palace, said that the palace bears witness to an important period in Egypt's modern history, as it is distinguished from the rest of the museums of historical palaces by its wonderful architectural design.

It is considered an art school that includes the various elements of Islamic arts. It was built in an Islamic style borrowed from the Fatimid, Mamluk and Ottoman Islamic schools.

 

 

The construction of the palace dates back to 1903, when Prince Mohammad  son of the Khedive Ismail ordered the construction of the palace on the  Manial Island in Cairo.

The palace includes three chateaux, which are the residence halls, the reception halls and the throne halls in addition to the mosque, the private museum, the hunting museum and the clock tower.

 

 

The palace is surrounded by a wall in the style of the walls of a medieval fortress.
