Youssef Ziedan’s 'Fardaqan' published in Italian

CAIRO – 19 October 2020: Egyptian Novelist Youssef Ziedan announced that his novel "Fardqan" has been published in Italy. The novel's title was inspired by the Persian fortress in which Ibn Sina was imprisoned in 412 AH.

Ziedan posted on his official Facebook account photos of the recently released Italian version of his novel, and commented: “I received these copies of the Italian translation of 'Fardaqan' from Milan. The translation was done by Neri Puza Publishing House.”

The novel revolves around the life of Ibn Sina during his arrest in Fardaqan Castle, located in central Iran. It is a literary narration in which reality is mixed with fiction. The novel starts with Ibn Sina's birth in 370 AH, in a family made up of an Afghan father and a mother of Khwarizmi origins (now Uzbekistan) and sheds light on his life in Central Asia, then in the Persian region, where he lived the last half of his life and until his death between Ray (present-day Tehran), Hamadan, and Isfahan.

"Fardaqan" presents a complete picture of the life of the scholar Ibn Sina, his works, his thoughts, his philosophy, his inner feelings, and their reflection on his writings.

It also deals with the era in which he lived, and the rulers whom he witnessed. It also tackles in detail the period of his detention inside Fardaqan Castle and how this period influenced his personality and life, as well as his writing.
