CAIRO - 25 September 2020: Cairo Francophone Film Festival will kick off on December 10-14 under the auspices of
Egypt's ministry of culture.

The festival main target is to promote cinematic ties as well as launching powerful artistic channels of discussion between filmmakers to encourage artistic and cinematic exchange. 

Cairo Francophone Film Festival will house multiple cinematic activities such as movies screenings, masterclasses, workshops and meetings with renowned filmmakers.

CFFF founder and head,film critic Yasser Moheb announced that the festival upcoming edition will witness the participation of the international TV5Monde network, as well as a number of cultural and cinematic entities and members of the International Organisation of the Francophonie (IOF).

Most of the festival activities will take place in open-air places to comply with the precautionary measures set to combat the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

The festival will be held without any kind of financial support from the Egyptian government in order not to add more financial burdens on the country.

More than 40 films have been submitted since the beginning of September where and CFFF selection committee will continue viewing the submissions until November.

Films produced by International Organisation of La Francophone will compete in the main competition. 

Another competition will feature documentaries and short fiction films.

The IOF was established in 1970 and its first secretary-general was late Egyptian politician and diplomat Boutros Boutros Ghali.

In 2019, the Higher Committee for Festivals, headed by Egypt's minister of culture Inas Abdel Dayem approved the kick off of the Alexandria Francophone Film Festival, which was planned to kick off in June 2020 in Alexandria but it wasn’t held due to the shutdown resulting from the coronavirus pandemic.
