India and Egypt: Music Communication" webinar - ET

CAIRO – 2 September 2020: The Maulana Azad Indian Cultural Center of the Indian Embassy in Egypt organized a webinar entitled "India and Egypt: Music Communication".

 

Two notable professors have spoken, namely Sagna Sudhir, professor at the Department of Music, Government Girls College, Kerala University, India; and Samah Ismail Ali, professor at the Department of Arabic Music, College of Music Education, Helwan University.

 

The two speakers pointed out some similarities between the musical heritage in India and Egypt at different stages of their development. This includes their local upbringing, the holiness they enjoyed in ancient times and the influence of foreign musical traditions on them during the Middle Ages, etc.

 

The two researchers also tried to compare "Raja" in India with the musicals in Egypt.

 

Sarah Refaat, an Egyptian music teacher who studied in India, spoke about her experiences during her studies in both countries.

 

Partha Pratim Mukarji, who works as an instrument trainer at the Indian Embassy in Jakarta, gave a live performance of various Indian musical instruments.

 

The seminar was moderated by Liaqat Ali, director of Maulana Azad Indian Cultural Center.
