Egypt’s Min. of Tourism & Antiquities accompanies Zurab Pololikashvili in a tour around Hurghada

CAIRO – 24 August 2020: Egypt’s Minister of Tourism & Antiquities Khaled el-Anani and Zurab Pololikashvili, secretary-general of the World Tourism Organization, began their tour on August 23 in Hurghada by visiting Hurghada Museum to see the Egyptian antiquities and learn about the ancient Egyptian civilization.

Hurghada Museum is the first archeological museum in the Red Sea Governorate established in cooperation with the private sector to contribute to linking culturaltourism with recreational and beach tourism.

The museum also aims to encourage tourists to visit archaeological sites and museums in the cities of Luxor and Aswan, which comes in line with the ministry's policy to link Upper Egypt with the Red Sea governorates, making Egyptian tourist destinations of all kinds available to tourists to achieve sustainable tourism development.

Pololikashvili expressed his admiration of the museum and the artifacts displayed in it, especially the statue of Princess Meritamen, daughter of King Ramses II.

After visiting the museum Anani and Pololikashvili went to Hurghada Hospital, and checked the medical facilities and equipment in it.

They also visited one of the diving centers in the city to follow up on the implementation of health safety controls approved by the ministry, as diving is one of the favorite activities for tourists.

The visit of the secretary-general of the World Tourism Organization to Egypt came upon the official invitation of Egypt’s Minister of Tourism & Antiquities Khaled el-Anani.

It is the first visit of the secretary-general outside Europe since the COVID-19 epidemic and the resumption of travel and aviation in Spain. Pololikashvili was accompanied by a delegation that includes officials from the organization concerned with international and technical cooperation with the Middle East region.

The two sides are scheduled to hold a number of bilateral talks and meetings with investors in the tourism sector, in addition to visiting a number of museums, archaeological and tourist sites in Egypt.
