CAIRO – 23 August 2020: Egyptian archaeologist Zahi Hawass has a habit of joking around with Egyptian football fans, saying on more than one occasion that the Pharaohs were fans of Al-Ahly Club, while teasing Zamalek fans, saying that the builders of the Great Pyramids were fans of Zamalek Football Club.

Although Hawass' statements do not deviate from the framework of humor, they are derived from a certain basis.

According to statements made by Hawass in the past, in the four rooms above the king’s room, hieroglyphic writings of the workers who built the pyramid were found, in addition to signs related to the construction process.

These writings, written in red (which is Al-Ahly's shirt color), give an idea of the system of work and measurement technique of Khufu's reign.

Three groups of workers transporting stones were mentioned. The two groups “Khaddam Khufu” and “Horus Medio Nazif” are mentioned in the southern half of the rooms, whereas the writings of the "White Crown of Khnum-Khufu Power" (White color represents Zamalek Football Club) division are found to the north. This indicates that each group of workers built their own part.

Hawass added that five chambers were discovered inside the Pyramid of Khufu (Pyramid of Cheops), four of which show inscriptions bearing the names of the workers who participated in building the pyramid.

The White Crown Division consisted of King Khufu's friends.  According to Hawass, there is evidence that King Khufu sent an expedition in the 27th year of his reign to bring the "mast", meaning in hieroglyphs the color red, in which the inscriptions were written.

Also, according to a number of references, the friends of the Pharaoh Khufu, the White Crown division, supervised the construction of the Great Pyramid of Khufu (Cheops).
