Egypt’s Min. of Culture received by artist Farida Fahmy to celebrate memory of Ali, Mahmoud Reda

CAIRO – 22 July 2020: Egypt’s Minister of Culture Inas Abdel Dayem visited the great artist Farida Fahmy, accompanied by Head of the Cultural Production Sector Khaled Galal, to celebrate the long artistic career of Fahmy as well as those of late Ali and Mahmoud Reda.

During the visit, Farida Fahmy summoned the memories of ​​establishing the Reda Band which was adopted by the state and was affiliated to the Ministry of Culture as per a decision issued by late President Gamal Abdel Nasser.

The band was managed by the brothers Mahmoud and Ali Reda, and in 1962 the band's performances moved to the Metropole Theater. The band showed the distinctive features of the Egyptian folk dance that expresses the customs and traditions of Egyptian society. Then the artistic encounter between Mahmoud Reda and the musician Ali Ismail produced the first folklore orchestra under his leadership.

Fahmy then spoke about the band's tours around the world and the passion of fans for the band's costumes and shows.

During the visit, the minister affirmed that the names of Ali and Mahmoud Reda are engraved with letters of light in the hearts of Egyptians and Arabs, and that if a real artist departs with his body, they remain immortal with their works.

She added that the Egyptian state celebrates its loyal creative icons, who contributed to forming the conscience of the Arab nation and preserved the nation's identity and history.

Abdel Dayem noted that the founders of Reda Band played an important national role from the moment of the band's launch, becoming true ambassadors of Egyptian art around the world.
