CAIRO – 14 July 2020: The second phase of resuming activities in the museums affiliated to the Fine Arts Sector, headed by Khaled Sorour, starts on July 14.
The activities will resume after coming to a halt since mid-March 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a press statement on July 14, Sorour indicated that activities will resume in a number of art museums, namely Taha Hussain Museum, Gamal Abdel Nasser Museum and Mostafa Kamel Museum.
Sorour also stressed that the reception of the public takes into account all the precautionary measures approved by the state to protect the safety of visitors and workers.
It is noteworthy that the first stage of the return of activities in the museums of the Fine Arts Sector started on July 7, namely in Alexandria Museum of Fine Arts, Mohammed Nagy Museum and Mahmoud Mokhtar Museum in Cairo.
The Taha Hussein Museum is located in Giza, in the building of the Ramatan Villa, in which Hussein resided from 1955 until his demise in 1973. Hussein’s wife resided in the villa until she passed away in 1989. This is when the villa was converted into a museum.
Moreover, Gamal Abdel Nasser’s Museum is located in Mansheyat el-Bakry, east of Cairo, where the late president and his family lived. It is a two-storey building with a private garden.
Mustafa Kamel Museum is located in Salah el-Din Square in the Citadel District. It was officially opened in April 1956. Before that, it was a shrine housing the remains of two leaders, Mustafa Kamel and Mohammad Farid. The museum is built in an Islamic-domed style, and is surrounded by a large garden.
