CAIRO - 10 July 2020: Acclaimed Egyptian production companies Synergy Films, New Century and Misr International Films released the trailer for ''El Ghassala'' (Washing Machine), marking the first trailer in Egyptian cinema after a closure that exceeded three months in the Egyptian film industry in the light of COVID-19 Pandemic.
The trailer was released on TikTok where it streams for 24 hours, marking a first time for an Egyptian film to have its trailer on TikTok.
Staring veteran actor Mahmoud Hemeida, Ahmed Hatem and Hannah El Zahed along with Mohamed Sallam, Bayoumi Fouad, Ahmed Fathy and Taher Abou Leila, the film guest stars Mohamed Tharwat, Mahmoud El Leithy and Ali El Tayeb and features a cameo appearance from superstar Sherin Reda.
The trailer showcases an avant-garde kind of a washing machine that functions as a time machine, which evokes several complications. ''El Ghassala'' is written by Adel Salib and directed by Essam Abdel Hamid.
El Ghassala revolves around Omar who uses the washing machine to get rid of the obstacles that drive a wedge between him and his lover.
The film marks the second cooperation between Ahmed Hatem and Hannah El Zahed, after the huge success of their last film Love Story that was released on Valentine's Day in 2019.
Produced by New Century Production, Misr International Films (MIF), and Synergy Films, El Ghassala is distributed locally by Dollar Film, and internationally by N Star, the film is set to be released soon in 2020.
