Egypt’s Min. of Culture followed semi-final stages of the 5th “Golden Voice” Competition

CAIRO – 8 July 2020: Egypt’s Minister of Culture Inas Abdel Dayem followed the semi-final stage of the fifth edition of the Golden Voice competition, which was founded by late singer Mohsen Farouk.

The Golden Voice competition was organized by the Cultural Development Fund headed by Fathi Abdel Wahab and was held in the cinema hall of the Hanager Center for Arts, amid the necessary precautionary measures to combat the novel coronavirus.

Abdel Dayem said that the Golden Voice competition aims to discover the singing talents in all parts of the country and nurture the energies of youth, discovering a new generation of artists, who are able to restore the glories of the singing pioneers of the past.

The minister was intrigued by the performances of the competitors, stressing that the competition presented a group of promising talents from different governorates, which reflects the state’s continuous pursuit of cultural justice as one of the axes of sustainable development.

Fathi Abdel-Wahab, head of the Cultural Development Fund, said that the jury of the fifth edition of the Golden Voice competition was chaired by Mustafa Mohamed, head of the singing department at the Conservatory and the supervisor of the Arab Singing House. 

Jury members include professor at the Department of Singing at the Conservatory and artistic director of the Cairo Opera Ensemble Iman Mustafa, professor at the Institute of Arab Music Medhat Abdel-Samie, singer Ahmed Samir, and musician Hani Shenouda.

For his part, Mustafa Mohamed, head of the jury, said that 122 contestants from 11 governorates took part in the current edition of the contest. The participants came from the governorates of Cairo, Giza, North Sinai, Assiut, Minya, Luxor, Menoufia, Damietta, Gharbia, Beheira and Qaliubbeya

Mohamed noted that the first stage of the contest was held in late February 2020, and the second stage was held online.
